Archive Radio Interview with David Gorman on The Alexander Kielland Disaster
FROM THE ARCHIVES: David Gorman Radio Interview, 1980.
The Alexander Kielland disaster occurred in March 1980, when the semi-submersible accommodation platform capsized in the Ekofisk Field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
More than 120 men lost their lives, making it one of the most serious offshore disasters of its time.
In the aftermath, questions were raised about offshore safety, metal fatigue, inspection, working conditions and the pressure to keep oil production moving. My dad, then Managing Director of Offshore Safety Consultants Limited, was interviewed on radio soon after the disaster.
