Through the Flames is my story of loss, survival, and what came after Piper Alpha. I was eighteen when my dad left for a routine shift offshore.
Days later, Piper Alpha exploded.
He never came home.
This book is my account of what happened next. Growing up in unstable circumstances. Losing my dad in one of the worst industrial disasters in British history. And the difficult years that followed. It took time, mistakes, and experience to find a way forward.
Eventually, I turned that experience into something useful.
What you’ll find inside
Life before and after Piper Alpha
The influence of my dad and what he stood for
What unresolved grief actually looks like
How I rebuilt direction through work and responsibility
A SAFER FUTURE
I now use my story in talks and workshops, particularly within the offshore and safety sectors.
The focus is simple:
Understanding risk
Taking responsibility
Making better decisions under pressure
When people hear the human cost behind safety failures, it changes how they think.
Take a look at the Speaking & Events page for more about how I can transform safety in your business.
